Daily Devotional: He will not LET you stay broken

Scripture: Matthew 12:9-13 (ESV)
"He went on from there and entered their synagogue. And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, 'Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?'—so that they might accuse him. He said to them, 'Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.' Then he said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other."

Restored by Faith

Sarah had endured years of emotional and psychological abuse at the hands of her ex-husband, a narcissist who manipulated and belittled her at every turn. The scars he left were not visible, but they ran deep. Her self-esteem was shattered, and she carried an overwhelming sense of worthlessness. Despite her efforts to rebuild her life, Sarah felt perpetually broken, as if she would never escape the shadow of her past.

One Sunday, feeling particularly low, Sarah attended church and listened to a sermon on Matthew 12:9-13. The pastor recounted the story of Jesus healing the man with the withered hand. As Sarah listened, she felt a connection to the man in the story. Like the man’s withered hand, her spirit felt shriveled and lifeless. The Pharisees questioned Jesus, trying to trap Him with the law, but Jesus responded by emphasizing the value of human life and the importance of doing good. When Jesus told the man to stretch out his hand, and the man obeyed, his hand was completely restored, healthy like the other.

Sarah realized that this story wasn’t just about physical healing but about complete restoration through submission to Christ. The man’s hand was healed, so no one would have known it had been deformed. This profound transformation spoke to Sarah’s heart. She understood that when we genuinely love, trust, and submit to Christ, He heals us completely, not leaving traces of our former brokenness. He will not let us stay broken!

Embracing the Struggle

The miracle of the man with the withered hand teaches us that Jesus offers complete restoration. When we submit to Him, He doesn’t patch us up; He makes us whole. This story is a powerful reminder that our past does not define us when we are in Christ. He sees our value and is willing to heal our deepest wounds.

Inner, Outer, and Above

  1. Inner (Mental and Emotional Fitness): Trusting Christ with our inner struggles allows Him to heal our emotional and mental wounds. Reflect on the areas of your life where you feel broken. Submit these areas to Christ, trusting Him to restore you completely. Engage in prayer and meditation, allowing His peace to transform your mind and heart.

  2. Outer (Physical Fitness): Our physical well-being can reflect the wholeness Christ offers. Just as the man’s hand was restored, our bodies can be a testament to God’s healing power. Take care of your body through exercise and proper nutrition, recognizing that these actions honor the God who created you and wants you to be whole.

  3. Above (Devotion to God): Devotion to God is the foundation of our healing. Spend time in worship, study scripture, and seek fellowship with other believers. Let your relationship with Christ be the source of your strength and restoration. When you submit your life to Him, He promises to make you whole.

Faith and Fitness

True submission to Christ leads to complete restoration. Our faith teaches us that Jesus doesn’t just heal us partially; He makes us whole. Approach your health and fitness with the mindset that by taking care of your body, mind, and spirit, you are embracing the wholeness that Christ offers. Remember that exercise and proper nutrition are acts of worship that honor God and reflect His healing power.

Prayer

Lord, we thank You for the complete restoration You offer through Jesus. Help us to trust and submit to You fully, believing that You will heal our brokenness and make us whole. Transform our hearts, minds, and bodies so that we may reflect Your love and grace. Amen.
